Arrival In Austin

By miranda | March 11, 2008

Ahh, off the road again.  We arrived in Austin last night, half a day earlier than anticipated.  Now we are moved in to the hotel room that will be our home for the next 6 nights.  Austin is great so far, though I’ve had a bit of trouble navigating some of the freeway ramps that seem to come up with little warning.  This morning we went down to the convention centre to get our badges and festival info, and boy, did we get alot!  Right after you get your badge, you get a canvas bag FULL of fliers and free magazines and party invites, along with a 200+ page Festival info catalog and pocket guide and schedule.  There’s alot of work to be done just to narrow down the list of around 1600 bands to the few that we will be able to see over the next few nights.  Then we’ve got to figure out which parties we want to attend during the afternoons, all of which advertise free food and drinks.  Wow, what a time to be pregnant.  Oh well, cool refreshing lemonades it is for me, and Harry can indulge in all the free beers he can handle.

Oh, and the weather here is great so far.  One afternoon of sitting on a rooftop patio in a tee shirt and already I realize I should have brought sunscreen.  How were we to know?  It was winter when we left Edmonton and began this 3000km trip south!
