Finally, Snow!

By miranda | December 6, 2008

Well it looks like winter is finally here, and maybe it will even stay this time.  Wow, no snow until almost a week into December, that’s sad.  The picture we have in the gallery of Sophie stepping in snow was taken at Kim’s place North of Peace River when we visited at the end of October, but I don’t think that lasted even up there.

So my personal date for the beginning of the Christmas season has come and gone (that would be December 5th, the birthday of both my Dad and Sophie’s Dad).  I cheated a bit this year though, and did some shopping before that.  But it’s a good thing, going out with others who can help inspire ideas.  We turned on the Christmas lights for the first time last night.  It was a really easy thing to do cause we never took them down from last year.  I’m conducting a highly scientific experiment to test if LED lights fade as much as the old incandescent ones.  We’ll add a few strings each year for comparison purposes.  I’ll let you know when my report gets published in a peer-reviewed journal.

As for Sophie, she continues to grow and change.  She really is so close to crawling, she just needs to learn to move her hands, but she definitely has the strength and the leg movements down pat.  She grins alot now too, and I can really get her to laugh, mostly by bouncing or jiggling her, or by letting her play with the baby in the mirror.  I’m putting up a few more pictures, though our picture-taking has slowed down quite a bit.  It’s a good thing, I really don’t like that aspect of the digital age, the overabundance of mediocre media that we amass.  Having said that, even with my delete-happy fingers we have alot of pictures.  Oh well, I try.

I understand the idea of mass photos in digital but I’m not quite there yet, still too set in 35mm mode when shooting.
What, its been white up here for a few weeks, just no depth to it.

That’s a good thing, don’t lose it! Mass photos are good if you’re trying to capture that perfect shot, but then they should be edited down to only a few of the best. Speaking of photos, I just added a few to the gallery… just a few! 🙂

I’d like to know what kind of methods you’re using for your light experiment. What kind of statistical analyses will you be running? How will you interpret your results? Are you going to do ad lib observations or timed observations? I need to know!!!

Ahh, to know those details you’ll have to wait for the published version, cause I’ll probably have to doctor the results to fit my hypothesis.
